Measure your calf at its widest point, standing, over the tights you would wear with the boot. Wider calves: the boots that fit

Four routes. The stretch versions of the Stiletto knee boot are the widest and the most forgiving, because the nappa gives. The Texans, the El Dorado at 39 cm round and 40 to 41 cm high, are cut with room because a cowboy boot is meant to be pulled on over the calf. The Bettina ankle boot closes with lateral elastic bands, so the shaft opens as far as the elastic allows. And the mid-calf shapes, the Roxy at 39 cm and the Dakota at 34 cm, stop below the widest part of most calves altogether. Narrow calves and short legs

A shaft that stands away from the leg looks a size too big, so a narrow calf should go to the closest cuts: the Vera 85 knee boot at 35.5 cm, the Stiletto in patent and croc-embossed calf at 36 cm, and the Anja knee boot at 36 to 38 cm depending on the material. For a shorter leg the shaft height matters more than the width: a 44 cm Jane shaft reaches the back of the knee on a 165 cm frame and sits mid-knee on 175 cm, which is why the brand states the model’s height on the page.
