The Paris Texas size chart

This is the chart the brand publishes on its own size guide. Luxury Shoes ’s product pages use the EU column, and the heel height in millimetres is listed on every page beside it.

Measure your foot standing, heel against a wall, from the wall to the tip of the longest toe, and take the larger foot. Match that length to the chart. If it falls between two whole sizes, the notes below say which way to go for each shape.

How Paris Texas fits, shape by shape

The house line is a long pointed toe on most of the range, and that toe is the thing to fit around. On the Lidia mule and the Lidia slingback the foot sits on an open footbed, so there is nothing to pinch across the top: take your usual size, and if you normally wear a half size round up, because the point needs the extra length more than the heel needs the grip. On the Lidia at 105 mm the foot slides forward a little more than it does at 70 mm, which is one more reason to round up rather than down at that height.

The boots are the opposite case. A Dallas ankle boot and an El Dorado knee boot have a pointed toe too, but they close around the foot, and a Western shaft has no zip on most styles, so the fit that matters is the instep. Take your usual size, and round down on a half size if your foot is narrow, because a cowboy boot that is slightly long lets the heel lift. The Bettina styles with elastic side panels are the most forgiving in the range.

The Stiletto knee boot and the Rose over-the-knee fit close through the leg as well as the foot. The brand gives the shaft circumference at a size 37, and it scales up about 1 cm per size, so a 38 cm calf needs a 39 in a boot listed at 36 cm. The nappa and stretch versions give a little; the croc-embossed calf does not.

• Bettina flat boots (25 mm): elastic side gussets on the ankle boot, a side zip on the knee boot; the most forgiving fit in the range.
• Sveva ballet flat: the one flat in the range, with a buckle strap; take your usual size and let the strap do the work.

Heel height and the size you order

Heel height changes how much of your foot the toe box has to hold. At 105 mm the foot is pitched forward and the toes carry more of the weight, which is why the 105 mm Lidia wants the half size rounded up and the 70 mm Lidia does not. The Texan boots sit on a covered block heel of 60 to 100 mm, and a block spreads the weight across the sole, so a 100 mm Dallas fits and walks like a lower shoe.
