Design

Ateliers Auguste’s brothers cite Le Corbusier and Prouvé and build rectangles and trapezoids with visible structure: the Mini Monceau, the Mini Marly and the Sévigné all stand up empty on their feet. Polène’s Numéro Un, Dix and Huit are folded from softer leather into curves and bows and are meant to slouch a little. In the hand the first feels like a small case, the second like a cushion.

Leather and make

Ateliers Auguste uses Italian calf tanned in northern Italy at an LWG-certified partner, REACH compliant, and has the bags made in workshops in the Venetian countryside with more than four hours of work each. Polène uses full-grain calf and makes in Ubrique, the Spanish leather town. Both are honest about it; the Italian route is the dearer one and the Ateliers Auguste price reflects it at the small end of the range.
