The Ateliers Auguste Marceau is the flattest of the house’s shoulder bags: 19 x 24 x 7 cm (H x W x D), a slim rectangle in box calf with the engraved plaque and an adjustable strap, at $730 to $970 at Luxury Handbags in Black, Limoncello, Off White, Tan, Taupe, including the one lizard-embossed Limoncello piece left in the range. The shape
A rectangle 19 cm high and 24 cm wide but only 7 cm deep, which is what makes it sit flat against the hip and slide under a coat. The plaque is centred on the top edge over a magnetic clasp; the strap is adjustable and the bag wears on the shoulder and, shortened, under the arm. It is the same footprint as the Monceau without the curved base, so the two are often shortlisted together: the Marceau is the sharper, the Monceau the softer.
Box calf and lizard-embossed
Most of the Marceau range is box calf in Black, Off White, Tan, Taupe. The Limoncello is calf leather embossed with a lizard pattern, the last of the seasonal lizard pieces at Luxury Shoes , and a lemon yellow that reads as a summer accent bag. The leathers page explains the embossing.

A phone, a slim wallet, sunglasses and keys. The depth rules out a bulky wallet and anything larger than a phone; if you carry more, the Capucine and the Mini Marly have the extra centimetres.
