Ateliers Auguste Review: Quality, Wear, Worth It?

Ateliers Auguste bags are well made, structured Italian calf leather that holds its shape empty, closed by an engraved plaque and standing on metal feet, at $730 to $1,350 at Luxury Shoes , and after three months of handling the June 2026 intake and the September arrivals the verdict is that they do what the brand says: they age into a patina rather than wearing out, and they are worth the money if you want one quiet bag rather than three loud ones. The caveats are a stiff first month on box calf, the care Off White needs, and a young name with little resale. This is the review, model family by model family.

The make, in the hand

Pick up a Mini Monceau and the first thing is that it does not fold. The body is reinforced, the edges are painted and even, the stitching is straight and short, and the plaque sits flush. The brand’s own account of the process, cutting, slitting, trimming, assembly, sewing, edge dyeing and hot stamping, is visible on the bag. The microsuede lining is the same on every model. Xavier Valembert said in March 2026 that “leather should not only look beautiful, it should age with dignity,” and the box calf does: the June bags have picked up a sheen and lost the new-leather stiffness.

The shoulder bags: Monceau, Marceau, Alma, Capucine

The Monceau family is the house’s centre, a curved base and a flat top with the plaque, in Mini, Baguette and full sizes, all on an adjustable strap. The Marceau and Alma are flatter and more formal; the Capucine and Mini Capucine have the front flap. All are box calf and all carry a phone, a wallet and sunglasses; none carries a tablet. The best of them for money is the Mini Monceau at $970.

The top-handle bags: Marly and Mini Marly

The Mini Marly is the most searched Ateliers Auguste bag for a reason: a trapeze body, a single rolled handle and the plaque make it the most photogenic shape in the range, and at 27 cm wide it carries a long wallet. The full Marly adds five centimetres each way. Both are hand and forearm bags, not commute bags.

The totes: Sévigné, Mini Sévigné, Amelot

The Sévigné is the work bag, laptop-sized and light at 830 g, and in pebble calf it takes abuse. The 2026 Mini Sévigné adds a removable strap. The Amelot and Mini Amelot are the soft crossbody totes in suede and pebble. If you buy one Ateliers Auguste bag for every day, it is one of these three.

The crossbody: Roquette

The Roquette at $870 is the cheapest bag in the range and the most useful on a day out: a phone, cards and keys, worn cross-body on the 71 to 95 cm strap and at the waist as a belt bag. It comes in box calf and suede.

What to watch

Box calf marks in its first weeks and the brand says so; keep it away from keys in a coat pocket until it has settled. Off White transfers colour from dark denim; the brand’s care page warns of it. Suede needs a protector and a dry day. Silver Editions are only on two Black bags, so gold is the practical default. And the second-hand market is thin, so buy the shade you will keep.
