The Romance Was Born Spring 2027 Edit
The Spring 2027 delivery is Romance Was Born doing what it does best: a handful of stories, drawn by hand, cut into shapes that carry them. Here is what we took for Luxury Handbags and how to wear it.
The poppy polka story
The strongest print of the season, and the most versatile. It runs across the full circle petal dress, the satin shirt dress, the wide satin trousers and the petal blouse, all built on the same engineered artwork. The circle dress is the one to buy if you take a single piece: it is cut full with an elasticated waist, so it needs no negotiation, and the print stays uninterrupted from shoulder to hem.
Persimmon, for the occasion pieces
Persimmon is where the construction lives this season. The garden dress in midi length, the tiered skirt with real volume, the ruffle dress on a lightweight taffeta base, and the frill cape cut as one size. These are the wedding and gallery-opening pieces. Keep the styling spare and let one drop earring finish it.
Acid gum and the printed separates
The acid gum print, made with artist Laura Jones, is the yellow and black that anchors the separates: the halter frill top with a ruffled peplum, and the wrap midi skirt in cotton poplin. Worn together they are a look, worn apart they are the easiest entry point into the label. Both are cut on the standard Australian size run.
Taffeta and tulle, for evening
The evening group is small and deliberate. The balloon skirt and the ruffle dress in deep burgundy taffeta, the black wrap frill skirt with a gathered ruffled hem, and the heart tulle pieces: the Heart Tulle Dress and the Tulle Heart Maxi Skirt. The tulle is genuinely sheer, so read the fit note on each piece before you choose a size.
Outerwear worth the money
The Fur Crop Coat and the Fur Shawl Coat, the pistachio pea coat in solid lime, and the floral jacquard crop coat. The pea coat is the surprise of the delivery: a plain, strong colour from a house that rarely does plain, and it will carry every print in the range.
The quieter half of the delivery
Not everything this season is a statement. The Chain of Hearts Dress is a straight shift with a fringed heart lace hem, the Lace Back Long Sleeve Shirt is a plain olive shirt with one detail at the back, and the Flannel Flower Blouse is the entry point to the range. The Romance Heart Sweater is the only knit, cut unisex and relaxed.
What the edit covers
Sixty pieces across dresses, tops, skirts, coats, jackets, trousers, shorts, knitwear and one swimsuit, the Angry Tania Swimsuit, made for the thirtieth anniversary of Muriel’s Wedding. Dresses and tops carry the range, with nineteen and seventeen pieces. Prices run from AUD 100 to AUD 2,200, with most of the collection between AUD 300 and AUD 700.
How to size it
Australian sizing, level with UK sizing. An Australian 10 is a UK 10 and a US 6. The letter-sized pieces run XS at a 6 through XXL at a 16.
