Ulla Johnson is an American contemporary label based in New York, founded in 1999 by Ulla Johnson. She started the line the year she graduated, with five tailored separates and five thousand dollars of her own money. Barneys picked up the collection in 2000. The label has shown on the New York Fashion Week runway since February 2017, and it sells through Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Le Bon Marché as well as its own stores. The house is known for artisanal hand-work, painterly print and romantic volume.

Much of that comes down to the supply chain. Ulla Johnson works directly with artisan communities in Peru, India, Kenya, Uruguay and the Philippines on hand-loomed cloth, embroidery and hand-dye. Those techniques carry from one season to the next. The brand added a denim line in 2021 that is handcrafted in Los Angeles, finished with a leather logo patch and a hand-hammered ring at the back belt loop.
