Acler Size Guide: AU to UK, US and EU Conversion

Acler is an Australian label, so it is cut on Australian sizing. That is straightforward if you shop in the UK and genuinely confusing if you shop in the US, where the same body takes a number four sizes lower. Here is the whole thing in one place.

The two rules worth memorising

Australian equals British. The numbering is identical, so an AU 10 is a UK 10. No conversion needed, no arithmetic.

American runs four lower. Take your US number and add four to get your Acler size. A US 4 is an AU 8. A US 8 is an AU 12. This is the single most common sizing mistake on Australian labels, and it is why a US 6 shopper who orders an AU 6 ends up two sizes down.

Acler cuts AU 6 through AU 16 across most styles, so the range covers UK 6 to UK 16 and US 2 to US 12.

How Acler actually fits

Numbers only get you so far. The label drapes on the body, which means the cut follows a natural curve rather than imposing one.

• Bodices run close. Most dresses are fitted through the bust and waist, then release. If you are between sizes and want room to eat dinner, the larger size is the safer call.
• Skirts are fluid. Maxi and midi lengths fall away from the hip rather than gripping it, so hip measurement is rarely the constraint.
• Shoulders carry the structure. Where a style puts hardware and drape at the shoulder, that is the load-bearing point. Check it sits where you expect before adjusting elsewhere.
• Most styles are true to size. Where a particular cut needs a different call, the product page says so directly.

What Acler does not publish

Acler does not publish per-garment measurement tables. Its own size guide is a general body chart, and the label asks customers to email for approximate garment measurements on a specific style. So treat any bust and waist figures you find elsewhere with care, and lean on the fit notes and the model reference on each product page instead.

Those model references are useful. Most Acler shots are taken on a model around 175cm to 178cm wearing an AU 8, which tells you how a length will fall relative to your own height.

Buying for an event

If the dress is for an event with a fixed date, order early enough to try both candidate sizes when you are genuinely on the line. A fitted bodice is easy for a tailor to take in and much harder to let out, so when in doubt, size up and have the waist adjusted.
