Ulla Johnson Size Chart and Size Guide: US to UK Conversion, Body Measurements and Does It Run Small?
Ulla Johnson Size Chart and Size Guide: US to UK Conversion, Body Measurements and Does It Run Small?
Ulla Johnson cuts to US numeric sizing, 00 through 16, and sells knitwear, jersey and most outerwear on letters, P through XL. Luxury Handbags lists every piece on the UK ladder, so a US 4 shows as a UK 8. The short version, before the tables: the brand publishes no “runs small” and no “size down” advice on any of the 283 product pages in its Fall and Pre-Fall 2026 collections, and the garment tables show its dresses cut to the brand’s own body chart almost to the centimetre. Buy your body size in a dress, expect built-in room in a blouse, and read the letter guide before you buy a coat.
Ulla Johnson size chart
This is the brand’s own conversion, published on ullajohnson.com and repeated on every product page. Each letter covers two numeric sizes.
| US | Letter | UK and Australia | Italy | France | Denim waist |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| US 00 | P | UK / AU 2 | IT 34 | FR 30 | 24 in |
| US 0 | P | UK / AU 4 | IT 36 | FR 32 | 25 in |
| US 2 | S | UK / AU 6 | IT 38 | FR 34 | 26 in |
| US 4 | S | UK / AU 8 | IT 40 | FR 36 | 27 in |
| US 6 | M | UK / AU 10 | IT 42 | FR 38 | 28 in |
| US 8 | M | UK / AU 12 | IT 44 | FR 40 | 29 in |
| US 10 | L | UK / AU 14 | IT 46 | FR 42 | 30 in |
| US 12 | L | UK / AU 16 | IT 48 | FR 44 | 31 in |
| US 14 | XL | UK / AU 18 | IT 50 | FR 46 | 32 in |
| US 16 | XL | UK / AU 20 | IT 52 | FR 48 | 33 in |
So a US 0 is a UK 4, a US 2 is a UK 6, a US 4 is a UK 8 and a US 6 is a UK 10. If you take a UK 10 on the high street, you are looking for a US 6, and Luxury Handbags has already labelled it UK 10 for you.

Does Ulla Johnson run small?
No. We read the fit notes on all 283 Ulla Johnson product pages from the Fall and Pre-Fall 2026 collections. Not one says “runs small”, not one says “runs large”, and not one says “we recommend sizing down”. What the brand writes instead is shape language: “relaxed throughout” on 25 pieces, “draped throughout” on 10, “designed for a relaxed fit” on 8, “fitted throughout” on 7 and “structured bodice, relaxed skirt” on 7. Read those as a description of the garment, not as an instruction to change size. An oversized blouse is still bought in your usual size, because the volume was built in.
The single sizing instruction in the whole season sits on the Odella Denim Dress, where the brand writes “for cup sizes above 32, please size up”. We quote it on the product page. Everything else is true to size.
What the garment tables show
Every Ulla Johnson product page at Luxury Handbags carries the brand’s own finished-garment measurements, converted to centimetres and keyed to the UK size. We pulled 454 of those tables together and compared the median measurement at each size with the body chart above. The result is the most useful thing on this page.
| Size | Dress bust (median) | Dress waist (median) | Top bust (median) | Coat bust (median) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UK 4 | 82.2 cm | 68.0 cm | 92.5 cm | 103.5 cm |
| UK 6 | 85.0 cm | 70.5 cm | 95.0 cm | 108.5 cm |
| UK 8 | 87.2 cm | 72.5 cm | 98.0 cm | 108.5 cm |
| UK 10 | 90.0 cm | 75.5 cm | 100.5 cm | 113.8 cm |
| UK 12 | 92.5 cm | 78.0 cm | 104.0 cm | 114.0 cm |
| UK 14 | 96.5 cm | 82.5 cm | 108.0 cm | 121.2 cm |
| UK 16 | 100.5 cm | 85.5 cm | 112.0 cm | 121.8 cm |
| UK 18 | 104.0 cm | 89.5 cm | 115.5 cm | 129.0 cm |
Three things follow. Dresses are cut to the body: the median dress bust sits within half a centimetre of the body chart from UK 4 through UK 12, and the waist runs about 3 cm over it, which is the ease a fitted bodice needs to close. Tops carry roughly 10 cm of bust ease at a UK 8, so a blouse is relaxed by design and there is no reason to size down to “fix” it. Coats and jackets carry around 20 cm, because they are cut to go over a knit. If a dress measurement on a product page reads wider than your bust, that piece is a relaxed cut and the brand will say so in the fit note.
Letter sizing: P, S, M, L and XL
Knitwear, jersey, most coats and the leather and suede pieces run on letters. P is Petite and covers a US 00 to 0, which is a UK 2 to 4. S covers US 2 to 4, M covers 6 to 8, L covers 10 to 12 and XL covers 14 to 16. Luxury Handbags lists the letter as it is cut, so a Fall 2026 shearling coat shows XS through XXL on the size selector. Because each letter spans two numeric sizes, a knit has more give than the ladder suggests. Most of the knits are described by the brand as relaxed throughout, the Emelie Cashmere Top and the Ronan Pullover among them, so stay with your letter. If you sit at the top of a letter and the product page describes the piece as fitted, consider the next one up.
Denim sizing
The denim is handcrafted in Los Angeles and sold on the inch waist, 23 through 33, and we leave those numbers untouched. Against the brand’s chart a 26 sits with a US 2 and a 28 with a US 6, but take your usual jean waist rather than converting from a dress size. The rigid washes, Tigris among them, do not give the way stretch does, so if you are between waists on a rigid pair go up one. The stretch styles hold their number. Inseam is listed per size on each product page and moves very little across the range, so a shorter frame should expect to hem. A few denim styles carry their own conversion table on the product page, and where they do, that table wins.
Model height and dress length
The model is 5 ft 10 in on 269 of the 283 current product pages. The median dress length in the garment tables runs from 133.5 cm at a UK 4 to 138.0 cm at a UK 18, measured from the high point of the shoulder. On the model that reads as a midi. At 5 ft 4 the same dress lands closer to the ankle, which on a tiered cotton dress is usually a good outcome and on a column silk dress is usually not. The product page states the model’s height and the exact length for the size you are buying, so check both before you decide between a midi and a mini.
How to use the measurements on a product page
Lay a piece you already own and like, flat on a table, and measure it the same way: bust seam to seam under the arm, waist at the narrowest point, length from the shoulder. Compare those numbers with the table on the Luxury Handbags product page for the size you have in mind. The product-page figures are the finished garment, not your body, so a relaxed cotton dress will read considerably wider than your bust measurement, and should. For a fitted silk piece such as the Coco Silk Dress, work from the bust. For anything with a drop waist, length matters more than waist, since the waist is not sitting on yours.
If you are between sizes
In a dress, take the size whose bust measurement matches yours and let the waist follow. In a blouse, take the smaller size, because the ease is already there. In a coat, take your dress size in letters and expect it to close over a fine knit. In rigid denim, go up. And if the piece is silk, satin, velvet, lambskin, shearling and anything else the brand says to dry clean, there is no shrink to plan for. Luxury Handbags accepts returns within 14 days of delivery with the security tag attached, so a size that does not work can go back. Our stylists will also check a specific piece against your measurements before you order.

Frequently asked questions
Does Ulla Johnson run small?
No. Across the 283 Ulla Johnson product pages in the Fall and Pre-Fall 2026 collections the brand gives no “runs small” and no “size down” instruction, and the garment tables show its dresses cut to the published body chart within half a centimetre through a UK 12. Buy your usual size. The one exception is the Odella Denim Dress, where the brand asks customers above a 32 cup to size up.
What size is a US 4 in Ulla Johnson?
A US 4 is a UK and Australian 8, an Italian 40 and a French 36, and it sits in the letter size S. On the brand’s body chart a US 4 is a 34.5 inch bust, 27.5 inch waist and 37 inch hip, which is 88, 70 and 94 cm.
What do the letter sizes P, S, M, L and XL mean?
Each letter covers two US sizes. P is Petite and covers 00 to 0, S covers 2 to 4, M covers 6 to 8, L covers 10 to 12 and XL covers 14 to 16. Knitwear, jersey, most coats and the leather and suede pieces are sold on letters, and Luxury Handbags lists them as the brand cuts them.
How does Ulla Johnson denim sizing work?
The denim is sold on the inch waist, 23 to 33, exactly as the brand cuts it. Take your usual jean waist. Rigid washes do not give, so go up one if you are between sizes on a rigid pair. Inseam is listed per size on every product page.
How tall is the Ulla Johnson model?
The brand states the model is 5 ft 10 in on 269 of its 283 current product pages, and Luxury Handbags repeats that height in the fit note of each product. Dress lengths are listed in centimetres per size, so you can check where a hem lands on you.
Can I return an Ulla Johnson piece if the size is wrong?
Yes. Luxury Handbags accepts returns within 14 days of delivery provided the piece is unworn and the Luxury Handbags security tag is still attached. Sale items are final sale. Full details are in the Luxury Handbags returns protocol.
