Roland Mouret was born in Lourdes in 1961 and trained first as a model and a stylist,
not as a pattern cutter. He established the house in London in 1998, and built it on a
way of working that has not changed since: cloth is draped and pinned on a living body,
and the pattern is taken from the result. The Galaxy dress made that method famous, a
sheath with a deep square neck and gathered, folded shoulders that ran through most of
the mid-2000s red carpet. The label lost the right to its founder’s name in 2006 and bought it
back in September 2010. Today the house is owned by SP Collection, led by Han Chong.
