Perfect Moment Base Layers: Thermal, Merino and Cashmere Explained
A good women’s ski base layer is a thin, close-fitting top and legging that moves sweat off the skin and holds a little warmth, and Perfect Moment makes more versions of it than most ski labels: Seamless Thermal sets with a touch of cashmere, Jacquard prints, lyocell Chalet layers, compression pieces, a merino legging and the UYN x Perfect Moment Ski Team set. You can shop them all in our ski base layers edit from Perfect Moment. This guide sorts them by fabric and use for winter 2026/27, beginning with the everyday choice, the Seamless Thermal Top in Black.
Key Facts
- Seamless Thermal top and legging: 75% modal, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon, 5% elastane, Made in Portugal.
- Jacquard, Chalet, Modal and Cashmere Blend and Wool Blend Bodysuit layers are also Made in Portugal.
- The Nordic Merino Wool Legging is 100% merino; the Wool Blend Base Layer Bodysuit is 60% wool.
- UYN x Perfect Moment Ski Team top and legging are part of a three-piece base layer system with targeted compression.
- Most synthetic and blend layers machine wash at 30 degrees; merino pieces are hand wash cold.
What a Base Layer Has to Do
The base layer sits against the skin. Its job is to move moisture away from you so you do not get cold when you stop, and to trap a thin layer of warm air. Fit matters more than thickness: a layer that is loose cannot wick properly. Perfect Moment cuts almost all of its base layers as fitted, and several add compression panels for a sculpted feel.
Fabric decides how the layer behaves. Merino is warm, soft and resists odour over several days. Synthetic polyamide and elastane dry fastest and are the toughest. Modal and lyocell, both made from wood pulp, feel silky and breathe well; Perfect Moment adds cashmere to some blends for extra softness.

Seamless Thermal: The Everyday Set
The Seamless Thermal Top is a mock-neck, long-sleeve layer cut to hit at the hip, knitted from a moisture-wicking modal blend with 10% cashmere and a smooth, seam-free finish. The matching Seamless Thermal Legging in Black is a high-rise, skinny legging that runs to the ankle. Both are Made in Portugal and come in the widest colour range of any Perfect Moment base layer, from Snow White and Oyster Pink to Dark Green and Wine. Because there are no seams, nothing rubs under a ski boot cuff and nothing shows through a fitted sweater.
Modal and Cashmere Blend
A close cousin of the Seamless Thermal, the Modal and Cashmere Blend Base Layer Top in Black uses 74% modal and 9% cashmere with a seamless build and a sleek zip neckline. The legging has a high waist. Choose this set if you like a zip at the neck to vent on the lift.
Jacquard Base Layers
The Jacquard set is the one to choose if you want a pattern. The top is a compressive, quarter-zip mock neck in fast-drying, moisture-wicking polyamide; the legging is high-rise and skinny. Prints include houndstooth, Landscape, Navy and White, and Snow Leopard, as on the Jacquard Base Layer Top in Snow Leopard. They are Made in Portugal and dry quickly, which makes them good for packing light.
Chalet Base Layers
The Chalet Base Layer Top in Snow White is the lightest option, a soft lyocell blend with a second-skin fit, breathable and moisture-wicking. It pairs with the Chalet Base Layer Pant. Wear it on bright spring days, also under a thicker merino sweater in mid-winter when you want softness more than warmth from the first layer.
Compression Pieces
Perfect Moment calls its Compression Base Layer Top its most compressive, athletic fit. It has a crewneck, long sleeves and a back zip pocket above the hem. The Compression Legging in Black is high-rise, skinny and runs to the ankle. These suit strong skiers who want support and a firm hold, and they double as gym and running kit.
UYN x Perfect Moment Ski Team
This is Perfect Moment’s first collaboration with UYN, which the brand describes as bringing together Italian innovation and its own sporty styling. The UYN x Perfect Moment Ski Team Top in Black and matching legging are engineered as part of a three-piece technical base layer system with socks, delivering targeted compression, temperature regulation and breathable comfort. They are the most technical layers in the range. We look at them next to the brand’s racing partnership in our Perfect Moment x BWT Alpine guide.
Merino Base Layers
If you specifically want a merino base layer, Perfect Moment has two options at Luxury Shoes . The Nordic Merino Wool Legging in Burgundy is 100% merino with a high-rise, skinny fit, ribbed ankle hems and a snowflake intarsia; it pairs with the Nordic Half-Zip sweater. The Wool Blend Base Layer Bodysuit is a ribbed 60% wool layer with a half-zip mock neck and a snap fastening, Made in Portugal. Merino is the right choice for very cold days and for trips where you want to wear a layer more than once between washes.
Base Bodysuits
Bodysuits stop a top riding up when you bend into the boot. The Base Bodysuit is a stretch nylon and cotton style with a mock neck, long sleeves and snap closures, designed to sculpt and streamline. The Seamless Bodysuit adds compression panelling, and the Seamless Base Layer Jumpsuit covers you from neck to ankle with a front zip. All of them can be worn alone with a ski pant for apres.
How to Layer Them
Start with the base layer, add a merino mid layer on cold days, then a down jacket. A Seamless Thermal set under the Polar Flare jacket covers most resort days; add one of the fitted knits from our Perfect Moment sweaters guide when the temperature drops well below freezing. Avoid a plain cotton tee next to the skin, since it holds sweat and chills you on the lift.
Sizing and Care
Base layers should be snug. Perfect Moment sizes run XS to XL, equal to UK 6 to 14; take your usual size and avoid sizing up, because a loose layer wicks less well. For care, the Seamless Thermal, Jacquard, Chalet and Modal and Cashmere layers are machine wash at 30 degrees with similar colours and no tumble drying. The UYN pieces wash at 40 degrees on a mild cycle. The merino Nordic Legging and the Seamless Base Layer Jumpsuit are hand wash cold and lay flat to dry.
