The MM6 Logo, Label and Numbers Explained

The MM6 logo is not a single mark but a system borrowed from the Maison Margiela label: a row of numbers from 0 to 23 with the 6 picked out, a single line of white stitches at the back, and a numeric artwork used as a print. You can see all three on pieces in the MM6 edit at Luxury Shoes , from the Numeric Cotton T-Shirt in White in our T-shirts to the bags.

The numbered label

Since the late 1990s, every Margiela label has carried the numbers 0 to 23 in a grid. One number is circled to show which line the piece belongs to: 0 for the Artisanal line, 1 for the women’s collection, and 6 for MM6, the second womenswear line, which is why it was first called Line 6. On MM6 pieces the 6 is the marked number. The full numbering system of the main house is explained in our guide to the four stitches and the numbered label.

The white stitch line

Maison Margiela holds its blank label on with four white stitches that show on the outside of the garment. MM6 uses a different mark: a single, short horizontal line of white stitches at the back, on the neck of a T-shirt, the waistband of jeans, the heel of a shoe and the back of a bag. It is the quickest way to tell MM6 from the main line.

The numeric artwork

MM6 turns the label numbers into a graphic: printed across T-shirts and sweatshirts, embroidered on denim, stamped on bag handles and woven into the elastic of the Anatomic ballet flats, such as the Anatomic Numeric Ballerinas in Olive. A handwritten MM6 signature appears as a second print on jersey this season.

MM6 logo vs the Maison Margiela logo

  • Maison Margiela: four white stitches holding a blank label, with the number 1 circled on women’s main-line pieces.
  • MM6: one line of white stitches, the 6 marked, and the numeric artwork as print.

How to check an MM6 piece is genuine

Look at the white stitch line: even, straight and stitched through the fabric, not printed. Check the care label for a clear country of manufacture, often Italy, and the composition. Buy from an authorised source. Every MM6 piece at Luxury Handbags is 100% authentic and checked before dispatch.
