Mach & Mach Size Guide: Fit, Half Sizes and Comfort by Heel Height

Mach & Mach sizes in EU numbers, from EU 35 to 42 with half sizes on most styles, and most pairs, such as the Double Bow Leather Flats in Black, take your usual EU size. The exception is a small group of PVC pumps, including the Double Bow PVC Pumps 110mm in Silver, where the house advises half a size up. Mach & Mach sizing: EU, UK and US

EU is the native system, and every Mach & Mach product lists its sizes in EU. Use this table to convert. UK sizes are a straight step from EU, roughly EU minus 33. US women’s sizes are approximate, because American brands vary, so treat the US column as a guide rather than a rule.

Half sizes sit between these rows: an EU 37.5 falls between a UK 4 and a UK 5. If you already own Italian-made heels in an EU size that fits well, start from that number.

Does Mach & Mach run true to size?

For most of the catalogue, yes. The product notes for the large majority of styles give no advice to change size, so buy the EU size you wear in other European brands.

Three styles carry house advice to take half a size up, and all three are PVC pumps with an adjustable ankle strap:

What “half a size up” means in practice: if you are an EU 38 in leather pumps, choose EU 38.5 in these. PVC has very little give compared with leather and satin, so a pump that feels snug on day one tends to stay snug. If you are already between sizes, take the larger of the two.

Are Mach & Mach shoes comfortable?

It depends on the height you choose, more than the brand. Most Mach & Mach styles are made in Italy with leather linings, and many of the higher heels have an adjustable ankle strap that holds the foot in place. Those two details help. But a 110 mm pump is a high heel, and no lining changes that.

Flats and low heels, 10 to 50 mm

Wear them all day. Strapped flats such as Audrey stay on better than slip-ons, and nappa leather softens with wear. If a flat feels loose at the heel, the strapped versions solve it.

Kitten heels, 55 to 65 mm

The best balance for weddings, lunches and long evenings. A slingback strap adjusts as feet swell through the day.

Mid heels, 85 to 95 mm

Comfortable for a dinner and a few hours of standing. Mules at this height are easier than you would expect, because there is no back to rub, though you will walk a little more carefully.

High heels, 100 to 110 mm

Save them for sit-down events. Break them in at home on carpet for a few evenings first, and carry a flat. United States

US women’s sizes run roughly two to two and a half above UK, so convert from EU with the table above. If you are a US 8, start at EU 38 and read each product’s fit note.

United Kingdom

Take EU minus 33 as your rule of thumb: a UK 5 is an EU 38. For Royal Ascot and summer weddings, a 65 mm heel is the sensible height.

The Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar)

Go by the EU size inside your best-fitting European heels, and use the table above if you usually shop in UK and US sizes. Long wedding nights and Eid evenings favour mules and slingbacks, which are forgiving on fit.
