Costarellos Size Guide: FR to UK, US and EU Sizes, Measurements and Fit

Costarellos uses French sizing, from FR 34 to FR 46 in most styles and from FR 32 in some. To convert, take 28 off the French size for your UK size and a further 4 off for your US size, so FR 36 is a UK 8 and a US 4. Most styles fit true to size, with a few exceptions noted below.

The EU column follows the French number, which is how continental European retailers usually list a French-sized label.

FR 32 (UK 4) is made in a handful of styles: the Kalissa guipure lace dress in Vintage Rose, the Brennie lurex georgette dress and the Maristelle crepe column dress. Everything else starts at FR 34.

Costarellos body measurements

Measure over light underwear. Take the bust at the fullest point, the waist at the narrowest point and the hips at the fullest point. All figures are in centimetres.

If your bust and hips fall in different sizes, choose by the part of the body the dress fits closest. For a strapless gown that is the bust. For a column gown with a fitted skirt it is the hips.

Fit notes by style family

Strapless georgette gowns: size up in the Minari

The Minari gowns fit slightly smaller than the rest of the range, and Costarellos suggests taking one size up. That applies to both the Minari in Ciel and the Minari in Dusty Mint, each $3,590.

Tailoring and bustiers: size up if between sizes

The Padra Cotton Velvet Flared Trousers ($1,450) have a fitted line. The Finna Petal Lurex Satin Tailored Jacket ($2,240) is cut close through the body. The Tesni Petal Lurex Satin Bustier ($1,450) is structured. For all three, Costarellos recommends the larger size when you are between two.

Lace and fitted dresses: true to size

The Kalissa guipure lace dress is fitted, the Andrie French lace gown has a fitted waist, and the Avielle silk mikado dress is form-fitting. All three fit true to size, so take your usual size. The Gisella has a fitted bodice and a relaxed skirt, which makes the bust the measurement to watch.

Column gowns: true to size, check the hips

The Belina, Mellorie, Verana and Jevi gowns are column shapes. They fit true to size. Because the skirt runs straight, use your hip measurement when you are between sizes.

Knitwear sizes

The mohair knits use letter sizes. The Nemie and Madley sweaters come in S to XL, with XS in the Madley in Ecru. The Lissia and Terena sweaters come in S to L, and the Vianna mini dress in XS to XL. All fit true to size. The model wears size S in the knits.
