Christopher Esber founded his label in Sydney in 2010, two years after graduating from the city’s Fashion Design Studio. The house builds from tailoring, then cuts into it. Panels are gathered and suspended, seams stop where you do not expect them to, and a handcrafted brass ring holds the whole thing together where a hidden fastening would normally sit. That ring is the orbit, and it is the fastest way to recognise the label across a room.

The Luxury Handbags guide to Christopher Esber
The industry caught up quickly. Esber took the regional Woolmark Prize in 2014, moved onto the official Paris Fashion Week calendar in September 2023, and in June 2024 became the first Australian to win the Grand Prix at the ANDAM Awards. Production runs through an in-house Sydney atelier with specialist craftspeople in France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.
Christopher Esber makes clothes that look simple from across a room and turn out to be doing something structural up close. A dress reads as a clean column until you see the panel suspended off a brass ring at the hip. A tee looks like a tee until the seam runs somewhere a seam does not usually run. This is a house built on tailoring that has been taken apart on purpose.
What to buy first
If you are starting with the label, start with the jersey. The ruched viscose pieces are the ones that sell out, they travel without creasing, and they hold their shape through a long evening. From there the tailoring is the better long-term buy, and the knitwear is where the fabric spend actually shows.
- The jersey dress. Gathered through the body, cut close, usually with a cut-out placed to break the line rather than to expose. The Aiba Draped Shirt Dress is the easy entry point.
- The orbit hardware. Handcrafted brass, worn as the fastening instead of hidden as one. It runs across swim, jersey and eveningwear, which is why two Esber pieces bought a year apart still look like a set. See the Looped Back Ruched Orbit Mini Skirt.
- The tailoring. Quieter, and the pieces that date slowest. The Bennett Silk Pant works under almost anything.
- The knitwear. Small collection, high fabric spend. The Cashmere Knit Polo is the one to own.
How the Luxury Handbags team styles it
Esber does the decoration itself, so the styling around it should be quiet. A flat sandal and bare legs by day. A slim heel and a clean shoulder bag after dark. Jewellery is usually a mistake next to the brass hardware, and a fine chain is as far as we would go. For city dressing, put the jersey under a sharp jacket and let the hem do the work.
Christopher Esber sizing
Christopher Esber is cut on Australian sizing. On the brand’s own conversion table AU maps straight onto UK with no offset, so an AU 8 is a UK 8. Sizes shown on Luxury Handbags are UK.
| Letter | XXS | XS | S | M | L | XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UK / AU | 4 | 6 | 8 | 10 | 12 | 14 |

Those are body measurements from the brand’s published chart, not garment measurements. Full detail is in our Christopher Esber size guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is Christopher Esber true to size?
Yes. The house publishes no blanket sizing correction, so the pieces are cut true to the Australian ladder. Tailored shapes run true. The ruched jersey and body-contouring knits stretch with wear and hold a closer line than a woven of the same size, so if you are between sizes on a jersey piece the smaller one usually settles better.
Where is Christopher Esber made?
Designed in Sydney. Production runs through an in-house atelier alongside specialist craftspeople in France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain, which is how the house describes its own supply chain.
What is the orbit?
The house signature: a handcrafted brass ring used as a visible fastening. It appears as a buckle, a prong, and a clasp holding a gathered panel, and some styles set a natural stone into the brass.
Is Christopher Esber a luxury brand?
It sits in contemporary luxury. Ready-to-wear at Luxury Handbags mostly lands between 600 and 1,500 USD, with eveningwear above that. The awards record is on the industry side of that line: Woolmark 2014, the Paris Fashion Week calendar since September 2023, and the ANDAM Grand Prix in June 2024.
