N.Peal and James Bond: The Cashmere Behind 007

N.Peal became the knitwear of James Bond in 2012, when the stylists on Skyfall chose a lapis blue N.Peal sweater for Daniel Craig. The house then made custom pieces for Spectre and No Time to Die, and posters for Spectre showed Bond in N.Peal. The women's collection shares the same yarn and the same clean lines, from the roll necks to the cardigans in the N.Peal edit at Luxury Shoes .

Skyfall, 2012

Bond knitwear had to work hard: it had to read clearly on screen, move with the action and look like something a man of taste would choose for himself. The Skyfall costume team picked a lapis blue N.Peal sweater, and the London cashmere house became part of the film's quiet, expensive look.

Spectre and No Time to Die

For Spectre, N.Peal made custom pieces, and the knitwear appeared on the film's posters and, for a time, its billboards. The partnership continued into No Time to Die, Daniel Craig's last film as Bond. N.Peal now runs a James Bond collection drawing on the 007 films.

Why Bond wore cashmere

Cashmere is warm without bulk, so it sits neatly under a coat and keeps a sharp line on camera. A dark roll neck, a fine crew neck and a heavier funnel neck are the shapes that recur across the films, and they are the same shapes N.Peal cuts for women.

How to wear it

Keep the palette dark and narrow: navy, black and charcoal. Wear a funnel neck with straight trousers and a long wool coat, then add leather gloves and nothing else. The appeal is restraint.
