Camilla and Marc workwear: a five-day office wardrobe from two suits, one trench, one dress and the layers underneath

Camilla and Marc’s own guide to what to wear for work starts with a suit and adds a skirt, a trench, a knit and a good bag, and the brand is right: it is the label a woman can dress for a working week from without leaving. Gemma Deeks built five days from the 237 pieces in stock at Luxury Shoes , around two suits, one trench, one dress and the tops and knits that make them different every day.

Key facts

  • The core: the Darien suit (jacket, pant and culotte) in a crease-proof technical cloth and the Helix suit (jacket and wide pant) in Australian wool, with the Ontario trench and the Evans trench over them.
  • The first layer: the Dakota high-neck top, the Alba rib tank, the Carmen shoulder pad tee, the Shari shirt and the Valerie bodysuit; a Leona cardigan and a Soleo cardigan for cold offices.
  • The dress: the Elisa maxi in Australian wool with a satin peplum, and the Mavis midi with a high neck and cap sleeves.
  • Skirts: the Namira midi in the technical cloth, the Sentra print pencil skirt and the Mannix check midi.
  • Cost of the week below, everything included: about $7,310 at Luxury Shoes .

Monday: the Darien suit

The Darien blazer with its tie front over the Darien pant, slim and high-waisted with a puddled hem, and the Dakota high-neck top underneath. A pointed low heel. This is the suit the brand’s own workwear guide leads with (it names the Helix; the Darien is the sharper of the two), and the technical cloth means it comes out of a suitcase without a crease.

Tuesday: the skirt

The Namira midi skirt, high-waisted with an asymmetric hem, with the Shari shirt in Australian cotton tucked in and the Leona cardigan in merino and silk over it. The brand pairs the Namira skirt with the Leona cardigan in its own guide, and the combination reads as tailoring without a jacket. In print, the Sentra pencil skirt does the same job.

Wednesday: the dress

The Elisa maxi dress: Australian wool, a high cowl neck, a contrast satin peplum at the hip, a vent at the hem. Add the Caius cropped blazer for a meeting and take it off for dinner. The Mavis midi in midnight, with a high neckline and cap sleeves, is the quieter alternative, and the Aurore knit midi the one for a long day at a desk.

Thursday: the Helix suit as separates

The Helix wide-leg pant with the Carmen shoulder pad tee and a loafer, the Helix blazer on the back of the chair. The padded shoulder on the tee carries the suit on its own, which is the point of it. Swap the tee for the Rene draped top in wool and silk and the same pant goes to a client dinner.

Friday: the culotte and the trench

The Darien culotte with the Alba rib tank and the Darien blazer in cream open over it, the Ontario trench on top for the walk in. In winter the Evans trench in black replaces the Ontario and the Cinder pant replaces the culotte.

What the brand says

Camilla and Marc’s own Tailoring 101 names seven essentials: the suit, a layering piece, a bag, a skirt, a trench, a knit and a jacket, and pairs the Namira skirt with the Leona cardigan and the Calen trench with everything. The Calen trench in Australian cotton is the lighter alternative to the Ontario above. The suits guide covers the other nine suits if two are not enough, the shirts guide adds the shirts, and the black edit builds the same week in one colour.

Frequently asked questions

Is Camilla and Marc good for workwear?

It is the brand’s core: suits sold as separates in wool and a crease-proof technical cloth, trench coats cut to go over them, midi skirts and a line of tops and cardigans designed as the layer underneath.

What is the best Camilla and Marc suit for the office?

The Darien: a tie-front blazer and a high-waisted slim pant in a technical cloth that does not crease, in black and cream, with a culotte for summer. The Helix in Australian wool is the dressier second suit.

What Camilla and Marc dress can I wear to work?

The Elisa maxi in Australian wool with a satin peplum, the Mavis midi with cap sleeves and a high neck, and the Aurore knit midi. All three take a blazer over the top.

What do you wear under a blazer for work?

The brand designs the layer itself: the Dakota sleeveless high-neck top, the Alba rib tank, the Carmen shoulder pad tee, the Shari cotton shirt and the Valerie bodysuit, which stays tucked.

Which Camilla and Marc pieces travel well?

The Darien, Namira, Mackinley and Bostan suits in the technical cloth, the Valerie bodysuit and the Mirage satin lounge pant for the flight; the Australian wool suits travel too but want a hanger.

How much does a Camilla and Marc work wardrobe cost?

Two suits, a trench, a dress, a skirt and five tops and knits come to about $7,310 at Luxury Shoes ; one suit and three tops is under $2,210.
